Flaky
7.9C starting dull and dry with wind building and rain during the middle part of the day. Met Office Leuchars data showed winds up to 36 mph gusting up to 57 mph at 1pm.
Maeve the Deerhound and I went for a walk before the worst of the weather came along. We had hoped to stay dry but the rain started during our walk. It wasn't too bad. It got heavier around lunchtime when the winds really got up and the gusts were quite noisy round the house.
Maeve and I walked down the road to the shore today and down at the beach it was windy. The tide was out so the waves didn't look too dramatic as they were only reaching the outer edge of the rocks. I had a look from an upstairs window during the afternoon and the shore was white with breakers crashing in over the rocks and the beach.
Along at the Fishermen's huts Maeve and I had a look for things to take close up shots and I have chosen on of a float with well worn flaky paint. The few pictures I took looking out to sea were just grey and dull.
Just about 5pm as I type and the rain has stopped. I have been listening to radio Scotland and it sounds to have been very bad over in the West with the wind, a very high tide, and a tidal surge leading to a lot of flooding along the coast. Waves were reported to be coming over the top of the lighthouse at Ardrossan, and I have heard reports of flooding in Helensburgh and as far North as Stornoway. The New Year is beginning the way the old left off.
