Sea stacks
Windy night last night and with J’s cold it meant I didn’t get a great night sleep, up early as it was going to be a busy day. Walked the dogs while J had a shower in the van as we had to pay at the campsite, despite paying £30 for the night. Managed to have a shower, breakfast and empty the van’s toilet and waste water and get on the road for just after 9. Went to see the Callanish standing stones, which were fantastic and then stopped off at the Hebridean soap company, which we just saw on the way. Headed further west to the Abhainn Dearg, meaning red river, distillery. Nice guy who owns and runs it and had a dram of his standard whisky and also the port finish version and came away with a bottle of the standard one. Carried along the road going west to see the Mangersta sea stacks which were very impressive. Quick stop at the Uig community store and then to Mangersta beach. The dogs had a great time there as we had it to ourselves. Massive sand dunes behind it but the sea was too rough for swimming. Tried to go to the Uig smokery but it was closed so headed to Uig beach for some more running and ball throwing, again with no one else around, by then it was time to head to the campsite for the night. Place is crowded and we have been shoehorned in between another camper, with 2 large dogs and a caravan, still the beach is fantastic. Burgers we bought in Stornoway for dinner and then another long walk on the beach, got to the end of the beach and a sea eagle came overhead looking at the dogs before going away.
