Stuff and Nonsense

Juvenile Avocet

We left the bright sunshine of Scotland for home and dropped in at RSPB Leighton Moss on the way back.
We spent a hour at the Causeway hide waiting for an osprey to turn up - it didn't. We were told that this year has been exceptional for ospreys - up to 4 at a time fishing have been seen in the past week.
We didn't want to be too late home so gave up and popped in to the Morecambe hides for a quick look. There were quite a few avocets and their chicks, all at different stages from the very tiny to this almost fully fledged one. It seemed to be exercising its wings, but failed to get more than a few inches off the ground.
A decent run home and all is well here.
