The Pensioner

Midnight dip

Not quite - twas only 10:40pm. We’d gone over to see the Latvian midsummer celebrations on the beach but people were mostly heading off; one explained it was a work day tomorrow. Things you forget when you’re retired.
Earlier I’d been a busy bee - knocked together the second veggie bed frame and then spent a while levelling them both and digging them in.
But it was such a beautiful day that I had to go for a sail in the boat - well, in any case I’d left it on the pontoon and wanted to take it back to the mooring so a detour round the bay was easy to fit in.
As I cast off I saw a guy reversing down the slipway with that worst of all things, the jetski. True to form he was soon out the harbour opening his throttle full and careering down to Wardie Beach. Peace and quiet gone. Swimmers alarmed. Of course before long the police were called by one of the activist swimmer/neighbours (I checked their their facebook page). I alerted the SK and over she went to spectate. Down they came, asking him his name. To which he replied efff off. Then mutinous beach goers started having a go at the guy and had to be cautioned by the polis to back off. Just as well we don’t get hot days too often. It’s a tinderbox out there.
So, to Scotland’s final group game. A win would do us. And blimey, the Hungarians backed off and let us have plenty of the ball. Which was embarrassing as we soon revealed that we didn’t know what to do with it. Apparently we did have a shot at goal. Fair result though - we rode our luck in qualifying at times and getting to the last 24 was pretty much a high water mark - getting to the last 16, well beyond us. But irrespective of that you’d want to have a go, right? What’s wrong with playing two up?
