Start Point

Another blustery day - and made a lighthouse out mission, which was only accessible at low tide. Which was late afternoon.
So first off a stop to see a submarine wreck- which wasn’t visible at high tide! But we’re entertained by the sea birds for a while.
Then our first attempt at reaching the lighthouse - a walk out along a headland and could see the tide was way too high to cross to the island so continued our walk round the headland. After a reviving cuppa at the campervan we headed out again to see if the tide had retreated far enough- but no, it still required a paddle across the slippery channel. So retreated again and met some cyclists who were determined to walk out to the lighthouse. We watched them go and not to be beaten, followed them across. Success, without getting our feet wet!
The black and white lighthouse at Start Point had recently been spruced up and was doing a good impression of a stick of rock. Of course there’s no lighthouse keeper these days, all automatic. There’s always something special about a lighthouse - at the outer edges of the land, and a vital sign for those at sea.
