Sally Mair - Loving life

Simple Simon

I thought I'd continue my kitchen theme. Yesterday the subject was egg cups, today's, pie funnels.
As children our pastry pie crusts were held up by a nut brown elephant and when I got married I bought my own, second hand, in the Lifeboat Charity shop in Stockbridge. That shop doesn't exist anymore, but I bought a lot of clothes there in the late 60s and 70's. I wore a lot of black in those days and it was a great source. I digress though.... I remember when my dad remarried he gave me mum's old elephant, he had a great affection for it too and he knew I would use it as well as cherish it. It's done well and still holds my pastry on its strong shoulders.
Over the years I picked up others, it wasn't until fairly recently that I was given a blackbird. I rather like the glint in their eyes and a couple of them whistle too. There a posh Le Creuset white bird in there The green funnel is Denby and the white is unmarked.
Today I went to Sighthill to drop my car off for repair after it was bumped in December. I had said there was no rush as it was perfectly driveable. I now have a very smart black Corsa SRi, a bit of a change from my wee 10 year old Polo. I'll enjoy it while I have it.
