Ne'er Cast A Clout Till May Is Out!
I looked out of the kitchen window yesterday evening and noticed what looked like piles of green mulch on one of the raised beds. I went out to investigate and found the potato shoots were all wilted and dark. We hadn't seen a frost yesterday morning and it hadn't been forecast but they had certainly been got at - even the ones in the deep potato bags. However, the leaves at the base were still OK so I think (hope) I've rescued them.
Anyway, today we had a delivery from Live Well the vegan shop in Skipton. I'd ordered our favourite vegan 'cheeses', some snacks and some jelly sweets. I liked the way it was all packaged in a box filled with puffed cornstarch instead of polystyrene. Guess what I did with it...I covered the potato plants with them to keep them warm! Then covered the whole raised bed with horticultural fleece. It's staying on till June! The puffs will dissolve into the soil.
I was working in the garden, weeding and transplanting from about 9.30am till 2.30 pm when I came in to make scones - at Frank's request. I made date and walnut ones - yum!
Frank had a rest day today, practising piano and playing guitar.
He's got a sore neck with all the hard work he's been doing over the last few days. Now he's sitting with a hot water bottle at his neck.
Tomorrow we're heading down to the boat for a few days. Canal + River Trust have said people can go to their boats but no unnecessary travel. We've been going to the boat anyway as there are no other boaters at the moorings so we've been well isolated.
I've been writing this while watching the Sewing Bee and now it's bed and book time.
Goodnight :-) Stay safe if you are now having to go out and about.
PS Thanks for all your comments, stars and hearts.
