Standing Out From The Crowd

Welcome to phase 2 of snowy winter 2010/2011.

Snow, climbing boots on, antarctic thermals on, slippy sliding to the bus, a coffee and dare I say it, a biscuit (small), in the land of flowers, some food purchases, snow, slippy sliding back to the bus, slush, snow, home, climbing boots off, antarctic thermals left on, preparation of dinner for daughter #1 and granddaughter, viewing of the winter wonderland of the Meadows, snow, snow, snow.................
my day so far.

Much as I like the first few days of the first snowfall of the winter, I get tired of the following falls just after things have returned to normal and a walk to the outside world doesn't involve the lengthy task of putting on and taking off boots and crampons at the front door.

So this morning it was back to the now familiar scenario of negotiating snow, slush, and compacted icy pavements.
It was surprising to me how the snow had become so slithery quite so quickly. Perhaps the pavements had an inbuilt memory of recent weeks and had developed the knack of a quick way of turning fresh snow into linear ice rinks.

However, it does look pretty outlining the skeletal trees in front of the Dower House and the youth and dogs seem to be having a great time again.
I know for certain son #1 is ecstatic at the thought of all that skiing to be indulged in.

But for me it's a case of 'bah humbug'.
