Snowglobe

Like a little snowstorm under a glass dome. Many people collect them. I received this one as a gift. It has a little music box within the wooden base. I sat it on the fireplace mantle to take a photo and realized it was magnifying the evergreen garland behind it. You would not believe how many times I turned it over and shook it to try to capture the ‘snow’ falling inside the globe. By the time I would focus on the darn thing half the sparkling white pieces had fallen already.

When I was just a child, I remember the small plastic ones they used to have for sale in the drugstores for a couple of dollars. I would always pick one up and shake it to make it snow until some salesperson would tell me not to touch them.

Today it snowed again. Meanwhile, I saw the weekly forecast, which says it is going to be near 60 degrees by the weekend! That is like spring weather! I guess we might not have a White Christmas after all. Everything will be melting away.

I was talking on the phone with my sister this afternoon and the doorbell rang. My granddaughter came running from the other room saying, “Mimi, the food is here!” My sister started laughing when I told her it was not in fact dinner it was the delivery service dropping off packages of stuff I had ordered from Amazon. I am not saying I am a bad cook. I can cook very well when I want to. The problem is that I don’t do it as often as I should. Life gets hectic. A few days a week, we will order dinner for delivery. It was quite a revelation to realize my granddaughter thinks dinner is here whenever the doorbells rings. I guess I’ll have to work a little harder on my domestic skills.
