Pleach

It was a very pleasant temperature of about 20C to walk to Pettico Wick and then back along the cliff tops to St Abbs.   The route is varied, first between fields where we passed dozens of newly shorn sheep in a yard and then the view opened up to reveal the distorted cliffs to the north before a steep climb on the old road to St Abbs lighthouse.  Before the lighthouse was automated in 1993 the lighthouse keepers and their families lived on the site but subsequently the houses have been sold.  The light and houses are just visible at the top of one of the photos in the extra.  As we ate our picnic we watched the seabirds swooping around the cliffs and everywhere was the sound of seabirds with their young and a contrast to the sound of song birds on the earlier route.  Mire Loch is a good place to see the fairly rare Northern Brown Argus butterfly and although we saw several we did not see many other kinds probably because it was quite breezy.   I saw 57 different wild flowers and it remains one of our favourite walks. (Incidentally 56 flowers identified yesterday)
