Guess Who Has The Ball? My Boy
We were awake by 4:30 so we headed to the very spacious/clean campground showers at 5:00. We were at the field with time to spare. Parker went home last night and decided to work at our local Freedom Fest, parking cars and selling light up necklaces. Easy money at $20/hr. He decided it would be better to “walk off his injury” rather than sit around. He was hurting this morning so he took pain meds. Probably a bad decision since he didn’t eat much. The boys did better today. They won their first two games. Parker had to leave both momentarily: his stomach was not happy. Plus it was muggy, sunny and in the 90°s F. All of the teams were in rough shape. I felt terrible for them. The sun wasn’t kind to the spectators either. By the third game at 11:20, everyone just wanted it to be over. I probably mentioned Parker belongs to two travel teams, the Admirals, who are made up of boys from his school mostly and the Cannons, who are from his high school and and kids from the neighboring county. At the beginning of the season, Parker committed to his school coach that he’d play with the Admirals when both teams were in the same tournament. The other guys didn’t. Their Cannons team won the Championship today. I give my boy credit for taking the high road. He played his heart out even when he was not physically up for it. We stopped by the commissary on the way back to the camper and indulged in a box of ice cream, better than alcohol…. I straightened up some of our clutter and we both took a nap to cool off. We have an easy dinner planned and then I hope to get to your journals. We plan to recuperate from the heat and sun tomorrow. We’ll go home on Tuesday. Hoping you had a pleasant weekend. Stay safe.
