The Day of the Bear
Today was Going To Town Day so I expected that I would be blipping something town-like tonight.. BUT, as we were preparing to go, we spied the two loons out in the back bay and decided to go sit for a while on the dock watching them...We got ourselves all settled into our chairs and I was snapping away, getting even more photos of those loons to add to the ones I took yesterday.
Suddenly...a loud slap and splash..The beaver! We had not noticed him swimming along the shore near us, so his loud DANGER warning startled us and when we looked over to see what was upsetting him, it was a bear! On the shore! And so close. (extra)
The beaver was now swimming directly toward us heading to the dock. In the past we have had beavers who liked to spend their day under the dock snoozing up on the ledges on each side of it. Well..here he was beelining it right at us..but, at the last minute, he saw us and did a quick turn and raced off back the way he had come! (extra)
Such action...Where to point the camera? Bear? Loon? Beaver? I was getting dizzy swinging the camera from side to side! But what fun! And such a treat. If they had all moved a little closer to each otherr, I could have taken a group photo!
We did go to town, but it seemed somewhat anticlimactic after all that morning excitement.
We did our errands, had a walk around the town dock and checked out one of the gift shops which happened to have a stuffed toy bear mascot (extra) that looked a lot like the real one we have back at the cottage :))
After that, we dropped off some of my already-read books and browsed at the Bearly Used Book Store ( yes..bearly..I know, it really is too much! ) and they also had a bear mascot...right on theme! (But he was carved out of wood and looked nothing like our bear!)
Later we met my daughter and SIL for lunch. (Their live-on boat is moored at a marina in town and they have been staying on it this week to work on spring cleaning and repairs )
So it was a very eventful and full day for us..we were quite wiped out by the time we got back here tonight! An early night it will be...
