Old Friend
Saxifraga 'Cumulus', one of the plants I bought recently at an AGS show. A little alpine plant, this type of saxifrage forms a tight dome or mat of minute foliage from which relatively large flowers appear. A classic indicator of a high mountain plant. Many of them can be grown in the garden if the right conditions are found, free draining, part sun, kept from drying out. I grew this one around twenty five years ago and for a few years it did very well in a pot - cheeky extra pic from sometime around 2001. A cutting I planted out in the garden in Norwich survived and flowered on a much smaller scale for many years.
Up early to get the car in for a service, I took Meg along so she got an early walk as we mooched our way home again. Then I walked to pottery - another lovely day for a walk - where I spent much of the morning trimming some pieces I threw earlier this week and adding handles to a couple of mugs. At the end of the session we emptied a kiln which had a few of my finished pieces in it. Very happy with the results. Someone on their way home helpfully ran me to the garage to pick up my car.
An afternoon of working in the greenhouse, a few things repotted, then another walk for Meg which included a run on the beach. After tea, choir. A longer session starting a bit later. Fun. Now I need to make a list of what needs doing and what needs packing as I'm off on a trip on Friday. Talks in Leeds, Oxford and Norwich included ... visitors welcome!
