Snow Birds...

We had snow yesterday and again overnight, so this morning was more like the winters we used to have...lovely white fluff heaped on fences and shrubbery. Lately the birds have been staying out of sight a lot -probably huddled up somewhere wishing they had flown south!  But it seems it isn't the snow they don't like, but rather the harsh and bitterly cold winds that have accompanied it lately. This morning, with no wind, the garden was a-buzz with birds flittering everywhere, from feeder to shrubbery, from shrubbery to fence, from fence to feeder ...repeat...providing a plethora of photo-ops! (extra) 

White fluffy snow is still appealing to me, but not the severe cold and ice and all these grey days; I really miss my "snowbird" days of going south to Arizona for the winters...All that sunshine, no snow tires required, no parkas, boots or toques, and no such phrase as "Weather permitting" when you were planning an outing.

At least these days I no longer have to shovel that snow...Age has its privileges...I can hire someone to do it and not feel lazy for doing so, and the town will come and plough the windrow at the end of the driveway for me as I am a "senior citizen". The fellow I had hired for years to clear the snow decided to retire this year and I had to find a new person to do it. The young man I have now does not use the usual snow blower but a truck with a plow..which seems like overkill for my little driveway, but I could find no-one else...(extra) 

How many more weeks until spring?
