Weegies (on) board

Not keen on making solid plans for holidays, but sometimes it is necessity.

Today those plans came together as we were “up even earlier than we are on school days” to catch the train for a day out in Glasgow.

The journey out was great and with some passengers not claiming their window seats, we gratefully obliged and enjoyed the views. Such a sheltered upbringing have my children had that they had not been in a “proper” taxi before, so we got one from the station to the Science Centre (loved this exhibit where the picture holds another picture when this cylindrical mirror is held up to it) where we lost a good few hours trying the experiments, eating and having our eye balls melted with a space show on the IMAX screen - also a first for me.

Samm had requested that The Youngest and I got some Irn-Bru down us (extra).

Trying to get a taxi back was a nightmare, with each of the numbers dialled leading you down a labyrinthian journey to try and speak to a person. I then remembered I had a hitherto unused Uber account and within a couple of quick presses; Baljit had arrived in ten minutes in a fancy BMW to take us back into town for half the price of the outward journey - no wonder everyone uses it!

It was then a bit of wander about the city to take in some of the sights, including the GOMA (extra - which was a bit disappointing this time), a restorative hot chocolate (not as good as Kakaw, not even close), some more shops and then we stumbled across glow in the dark crazy golf (extra), which was great fun!

There was a bit of a delay getting on the train for the journey home, but once on board, we were able to bag a table seat and the wee ones dived into their spoils from the shops while we had a train picnic as we discussed our day. I could see that they were flagging, bless ‘em.

I’ve promised them a slow start to tomorrow!
