Icebergs and rock formations - day 3

We slept well, thanks to wine and Kwells. After breakfast (with the Melbourne banker and his wife) it was a talk from Jean the bird woman. She was so good.

We went outside to view our entry to Scorsby Sund, the largest fjord system in the world, which was a lot wider than it appeared on the map (the area is as big as Denmark) but then Greenland is huge. There was fog which gradually cleared into a lovely sunny day.

After that it was a talk from the geologist who galloped through a lot of complex ages and types of rocks.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch with Harvey and Heidi who were from USA. He’s the ship’s doctor and said he wasn’t keen on Trump but he was a republican. Then we spent a lot of time in the sun on deck watching the icebergs.

We were told we’d go out in zodiacs in Vikingebugt, Greenland, around 3.30. We were in Orange the last group to go out so we had plenty time on deck to view lots of icebergs. I had a nice chat with a young Indian couple from Bangalore, who worked in computers.

The zodiacs were great. First we went to look at hexagonal rocks and pillar formations like Fingal’s cave then went to view some glaciers. We saw an iceberg flip over. The air was so clear and bright.

When we got back there was just enough time to shower and get ready for the captains cocktails. At dinner we were joined by Janet who hunted us down as she was a Campbell from Colorado. She said God told her to retire. She’s an Evangelical Christian but said she wasn’t sure she was able to continue as a republican given the sort of stuff Trump says. We are certainly meeting some interesting people!
