August Adventures
And we're in the pub... at last... Today has, fair to say, held more than it's share of adventure...
The morning began with a birthday breakfast for Janet, as well as to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary. Then we drove Mollie Campervan over to Mums, or Grans, or even Great Grans depending on who you speak with.
Sadly, I was incautious driving up the drive and caught Mollie on one of the gateposts. A bit of a ding that will cost me a few quid later. Now, I've a tendency towards animism and you can take it with a pinch of salt if you wish but later in the day... Mollie's gear shift linkage broke, leaving me in fourth gear and 250 miles from home...
I managed to get Mollie back to Mums, and called the AA. The tech said on arrival that he probably knew what the problem was, and that the AA didn't normally carry the parts needed to repair the linkage. However, he'd encountered this fault before and had bought a few of the spares from eBay, and he might just have one left in the back of his van...
And he did. An hours stretching and reaching into then depths of Mollie, like an oily midwife, and the gear shift was working again. He said that I'd have to pay for the part as it was his personally and not covered by the AA... and it was £7.65!!! And we both laughed. I imagine you'll know I was happy to buy his bar bill for a fair few days!
Then, returning to the AirB&B, Cheryl brought out a birthday cake for Janet, complete with a Roman Candle style addition. She passed it to Janet for the extra shot, who just happened to be standing under the fire detector. Uh-huh... it has been a day of adventure.
So, August birthdays... next time you feel frisky at Yule do keep this in mind...
