Walking home

Not really I was walking from home to the next village, Cullingworth which was my childhood home, for my second shingles jab this morning.
As Nanna K says I haven’t gone far!

Arrived with 5 minutes to spare but was rather hot and sticky after a pleasant enough walk of just under 2 miles. The flat is fine but it’s up hill all the way through our village and then again  at the other end ascending into Cullingworth.

This picture is taken on the flat on what is often referred to as the ‘mad mile’ of road between our villages. I liked the cows and calves sitting in the foreground showing how warm it is but behind them is the place I was born. Hard to see but beyond the two calves in the rear and over the first line of trees there is a building ( quite hard to see) next to a gap in the trees on the next rise. Hallas Hall Farm my home till I was 21 excluding years at college. The trees below it are at the top of the Goit Stock Valley for those who know it. A lady who moved in next door once said she couldn't sleep because of the sound of the waterfall at Goit Stock, I’d never heard it!

I was out 3 minutes after my appointment time and met Chris to go for a coffee next door in the Village Hall. This is relatively new and was built to replace to village hall my mother was on a committee to fund in the 1970’s.They bought an ex scout hut and refurbished it abs it still stands unused opposite the church.

We spent a bit of time trying to work out how things used to be. It was my walking route to school for over six years and my grandma lived in one of the now demolished houses, but it’s hard to figure out what was where when so much has changed. The primary school building is still there but is now apartments and I think the current village hall  has been built on land where a huge YMCA building used to stand. It was semi derelict when I was a child but unbelievably we had Brownies in there. Climbing up crumbling stairways to the top floor which was like a ball room. I also remember going to dances there doing the Gay Gordon’s and the Valeta!. It certainly wouldn’t be sanctioned for use in today’s health and safety world!
So an interesting morning, I hope I don’t have the same side effects Chris had last week with the jab but good to get it done.
