Pure magic!
Posting late as we are just in from a magical evening - Keighley and Worth Valley Railway’s production of the classic and much loved ‘The Railway Children’, part of City of Bradford 25, capital if culture.
It was simply outstanding. The acting, the set and it’s effects, a wonderful story and above all the magic of steam engines.
We’d taken the bus to Keighley (all around the houses but we had plenty of time) as it was the same bus that would have taken us down to the station in Bingley for a train.
We’d booked an early meal at the Old Parcel Office in Keighley station. We sat with a couple from Harrogate and had a very pleasant chat before heading to the queue down the ramp to KVWR’ s platform for the steam train to take us to Oxenhope.
It was here that I went to the front of the train to get this classic shot of the engine. There were food and drink stalls outside the engine shed, and combined with a pleasant sunny evening, there was a great party atmosphere.
In the engine shed the seating was arranged banked up at either side of a rail track. Moving platforms brought on simple sets and actors and the familiar story was acted out. It was cleverly done with excellent acting and humour. Spoiler alert - an engine does actually come into the ‘auditorium’.
One of the best things I’ve experienced for a long time.
At 9.00 pm the steam train took us back to Keighley to round off a perfect evening. Straight off the steam train and on to the regular platform and service back to Bingley and a taxi home.
Cup of tea and posting my blip and then definitely bed!
A great way to round off July!
