El Anatsui

In essence, this is a collage of a collage, as El Anatsui's works and installations are, for the most part, collages, constructed out of reused objects.

This evening I attended a reception and then a dinner in the Talbot Rice Gallery in celebration of El Anatsui. It was considerably more fun than the dinner last night. That's all I'll say. It's wonderful having a gallery next door, and we can - and hopefully will - do more to make use of our neighbourliness. The exhibition is gorgeous - vivid, colourful, impactful. I recommend that anyone who can should go along. It's open until September.

Sadly, I'm still struggling with a bit of a cold. Not bad enough to call myself properly ill. But none the less, not entirely good. Feeling somewhat more upbeat, however, as the end of the week hoves into view.

I had a quick meeting with my colleague who is actually on annual leave, to catch up about a few urgent matters. A bit later on, it became apparent that neither of us had read an excel spreadsheet properly, or thoroughly. My own view is that these are works of evil, but they do sometimes contain important data. When eventually I managed to see the figures I needed to see, I could discern that they were not actually as bad as I expected them to be, so I think we will survive next year in the end.
