Reflected grandeur
Graduation season continues, and not necessarily smoothly. I post a link to this tweet, not because I agree with it, but really as an aide memoire about just how unpleasant this time is right now. I'm very glad that wasn't me on the platform, but we were lucky to avoid this. The unpleasantness isn't confined to twitter although that's mostly where I've seen it, but also on instagram. It's also definitely there in real life. I have my own views on all of this, but I'll keep most of them to myself for now.
In the evening, I went to the graduation dinner to celebrate several of the honoraries. I had interesting people to sit next to so that chat was good, although unfortunately we had to do that ridiculous round the table business, on the topic of "my best job ever". Honestly, in the circumstances rather inappropriate in my view. I said mine was yet to come. Retirement. Yay.
We seemed to have the posh cutlery out this evening, and I liked the way the knives reflected the Playfair Library ceiling. On a tricky day, at least an aesthetically pleasing image.
