Bravonium

This afternoon I passed through Leintwardine in north Herefordshire. The village, which the Romans called Bravonium, lies on Watling Street which ran from London to Wroxeter. I called in at the church of St Mary Magdalene, which also has Roman origins. There were several interesting windows including a very large east window which, judging by the colours and style, is probably by Lavers, Barraud and Westlake. In the choir stalls there are some medieval misericords on one side and 21st century misericords on the other. A subject for a future blip I think.
