Grumpy Old Man

A taste of honey

Another mixed day, mostly dull and cloudy with occasional spots of rain. I felt I had to get some air this morning so took my book outside - I'm re-reading Gerald Durrell's 'The Mockery Bird' - but it was pretty chilly out in the breeze. The sun did come out for a while, and the cats came out too, but raindrops chased us in.

I've spent the afternoon, so far, going through pictures. Why do almost all of my pictures need some fiddling with! Maybe I'm just too fussy.

My EB today is of a white form of Olearia stellulata, an attractive small to medium sized shrub from SE Australia and Tasmania. It does well here, though nearly blown out of the ground last winter! Behind it is one of my favourite shrubs - Euphorbia mellifera, the Honey Spurge from Madeira and the Canary Islands. The flowers are certainly beautifully honey-scented!

Quote of the Day: 'A spoonful of honey will catch more flies than a gallon of vinegar.' - Benjamin Franklyn.
