Between fen and mountains

The little yellow train

Today’s walk took us on a circuit high above the Tet valley, and on the way down, I spotted the emblematic little yellow train. We walked up to the ruined village of Els Horts. It always amazes me how much effort went into building these abandoned villages a long away from anywhere with very poor soil unsuitable for agriculture. Nevertheless, there are many terraces retained by dry stone walls, which also must have taken a huge amount of manual labour to construct In all we climbed 600 metres and walked 11 kilometres. Luke accompanied us and he must have covered more like 50 kilometres running backwards and forwards and exploring off piste. He is a great dog. He loves his mountain walks. He has been no trouble to us on his holiday. We just have to find time each day to try to wear him out. Impossible!
