Pulteney Bridge

A damp day today but in many ways easier to manage than the hot sunny days we’ve had with the occasional biblical downpour.

It’s been all go for everybody so it was decided we could have a day to ourselves to do as we wanted. Things changed a bit when John decided to work from home because of his back. (Thanks for all your good wishes)

Cleaners were coming at 10.00 so we headed out. As it was raining we walked down through Bailbrook House to London Road to get the bus, alighting just by the River Avon at Pulteney Bridge - extra

There are two little cafes on the bridge, run by the same people, if you go to one you might have to use the loo in the other! It is one of our favourites especially when Landrace is closed on Walcot Street but seats are at a premium.

We were lucky and got a window table. In the extra our window is the largest one furthest to the left. Whilst sitting there one of the boats set out up the river to Bath Easton the village just beyond where the family live.

We had a coffee and then crossed the road to the Victoria Museum. There is a Toulouse Lautrec exhibition on but I just wanted to look at cards in the shop. Maybe a visit next time. There’s also a ‘Mr Doodle’ exhibition on at the Holburne. There were banners out for that on Milsom Street.

A wander around various shops in Bath before getting a cup of tea in Waterstones up Milsom Street. We left this uphill street till last as we were going to make our way up Landsdown Road to John’s mum’s for lunch. It’s quite a hike so we took it steady.
John’s eldest sister Charlotte and husband Adam were visiting in their way back to Harrogate from Dorset. Their two boys are definitely the ‘Big Boy’ cousins! Extra.
We arrived as Grace was leaving to take Eda to her dress rehearsal for Matilda which we are going to see on Thursday.
On her way back Grace was picking up John to join us all.
It was lovely to meet up with them again and Sue had made us a lovely lunch.

Most of the time we were in Bath it was dry but it came on to rain again as we were leaving Sue’s. We had decided we would walk back and were given instructions for a footpath that would take us past some cottages at Perfect View and down to the road that the bus takes to Larkhall. Stopped at the Deli in Larkhall for a cuppa (I needed the loo before the hill) and then climbed back up to Bailbrook. So despite getting the bus this morning we’ve done about 14,000 steps and two big climbs!
Grace has just gone to collect Eda from her rehearsal and then we’ll make dinner.

A good day all round despite the inclement weather.
