Winter Words
Another interesting day at Winter Words. The theme today for me was the importance of place and the role of stories in evoking a sense of place and understanding its history and the people who lived there.
The first speakers was Dougie Strang talking about his book The Bone Cave and the second James Crawford talking about his book Wild Histories. Dougie's talk aligned with one of the reasons why I started to learn Gaelic, namely the meaning behind the names of hills, rives, moorlands and other places in Gaelic or derived from Gaelic and which are often descriptive of geography or usage.
T only came to first talk and I had planned on hanging around the theatre until the second one but bumped into A&M who were attending both and invited me back to their's for soup. It was good to catch up (and the soup was very tasty as well).
Afterwards I helped pack away the Station Bookshop Stall. We'd raised over £450 over the weekend at Winter Words which will go the the six charities which we raise funds for.
