Getting ready for "Placenames of Scotland Course", which I am enjoying.  We are now passed the half-way mark (class 5 of 8) and in the last week we can do a short presentation. I'm thinking about a nearby hill Blath Bhlag, mainly because I like the name. Bhalg is the genitive of Balg which can mean a bag or blister (presumming referring to its shape).  Blàth to me means warm but warm baggy looking hill didn't make much sense to me. However on consulting Dwelly (an massive Gaelic to English Dictionary) I discover it can also mean flower (possibly those that require a bit of warmth). Something to think about. I also discovered /realised that Ard in placenames could come from Aird (point) as well as Ard (high) and so more thinking to do. 

I really enjoyed my Pitlochry Book Group this afternoon - lots of interesting chat despite the fact that not many of us enjoyed the book (The Bee Sting by Paul Murray) (or perhaps because of it). I found it too frenetic and I didn't care for most of the characters. Anyhow it got us discussion what constitutes good writing, good art and a whole range of other topics. 

Two chinooks also flew by.
