Back blip
We didn't go with the club today as the walk was a bit challenging for us. Instead three of us had a walk around the village, viewing all the wooden sculptures, and then took a service bus into Dingwall.
We were looking for a coffee shop when we spotted that the local Church of Scotland were having a coffee morning and we were welcomed in and had great coffee and home made tray bakes, all for a donation. It was really lovely to talk to the ladies and compare notes of our areas. And they told us of the history of all the yarn bombing around the town. (See one in extras)
We visited the museum which is dedicated to the 51st Highland Division. This was the division that held the line to allow the evacuation at Dunkirk. They however, were prisoners of war for most of the years of the war. Interestingly, they devised a country dance when in prison camp, The Reel of the 51st, and we still dance it to this day.
We returned by bus to Strathpeffer, and walked up to the Touchstone Maze, a steep ascent but worth it. Constructed in 1995, this captivating labyrinth spans 25 meters in diameter and is comprised of 81 large rocks sourced from quarries scattered across the Scottish Highlands and Islands. The design of the maze follows prehistoric patterns, seamlessly integrating geology and astronomy into a truly unique creation.
We headed back down to the village and had a coffee stop, then back to the hotel to meet up with the others.
In the evening we had a great ceilidh!!!!
