fruits of the earth

Katy came to visit at lunchtime today, most of her child care panics are over for a while as her husband's shifts are a bit more predictable in his new base.
After she'd left It went to the cycle path and picked a kg of brambles in about 15 minutes , lovely berries and lots still to come. A little further on I spotted the crab apples, not yet ready but a very healthy crop and free for the picking. The brambles were just full of insects, but nice ones! Butterflies -red admirals, tortoiseshells and woodlands browns. Lots of bees too and I accidently picked one and dropped it into my bowl. Fortunately it wasn't cross and flew off again!
I made a fruit sponge with half of the brambles and a couple of windfalls from the garden. There was too much apple so I ate the extras with some cheese.
We've booked a meal out tomorrow night in Côte which we always enjoy. I spotted an offer to give you a free bottle of house wine if you order two main courses and two side dishes. We can do that!
