Da Bridge Hoose
Dry first thing, and then it poured with rain all day, finally easing tonight. Calm all day, and a beautiful sunset. Burns and waterfalls overflowing.
Up early, the rain soon started but it was a dull day, sadly hiking plans were put on hold. Stopped off in Grasmere, where I had to buy an umbrella, something we can't use in Shetland due to horizontal rain and gales. Had a cuppa and cheese scone in a local café. Next stop was a walk around Ambleside, and a pie from a local bakery. Onwards to Windermere for another walk, good buy with the brolly. Headed up the west side of Lake Windermere, but stopped in our tracks, we came across a couple of fallen trees. Back the way we came and headed to Keswick, where we bumped into friends Kerry and Shane (Stranger), down from Orkney. A spring went in the car today, so waiting on the AA tonight.
Memories came rushing back today, when we arrived in Ambleside. Last time I was here, I was 12 years old, and fell in love with this old house. Built around the 17th century on a bridge for the Braithwaite family. Used as an apple store, a tearoom and even a home for a family of eight. This really is the most iconic building in the Lake District, and well done to those who saved it from demolition in the 1920s. Hope it goes on to inspire many more generations to come. The Bridge House, Ambleside, Cumbria.
