My childhood books had stories about cows with names like Buttercup, Daisy, Bluebell and other flower names. Now cows are identified by a 12 figure number indicating their parentage and place of birth on ear tags. This is the first time I have seen any with names. Among the cows that were interested in peering over the gate were Elaine. Elsa, Elouise and Elizabeth, Zoe, Zena and Zara. They all had names on their extra ear tags but these were the only ones that I managed to blip and some like Elsa had a date so perhaps it shows when she was made pregnant rather than being born on 31-03-22 when she would still be too young to have a calf now. Perhaps the initials of the names indicate the year of birth and in large you might notice Elaine, Elsa, Elouise and Zara and is Zara six years older than Elaine? None of the dozen or so calves had additional name tags.
