Little Women times three

Another interesting find in a box of my books. I have disposed of most of them, no one will want first readers from the late ‘40’s ..early ‘50’s and well read and annotated annuals.

These are a different category, a book first published in 1868. The one on the left was a Christmas present from an aunt in 1956, the edition on the right was published in 1984, I think that it must have been R’s.

The one in the middle is a Ladybird Children’s Classic. The story by Louisa M Alcott is retold by Joan Collins, born 1917. It was given to me as a gift from one of my patients when I was a community nurse in Lincolnshire. The inscription inside says ‘to. Rona with best wishes from Joan Collins May 1987’. I didn’t know the lady very well and had no idea that she was a writer until then. This kind gesture was her way of saying thank you for the care that I had provided. It has been treasured over the years. These will go back in the box.

Another book found is The Story of Carlisle written by Joyce and Brian Blake, published in 1958 to celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the granting of the First Charter by King Henry 11. It was published for the children of the city and a copy was given to each child. I was given a copy on the 2nd July of that year. Mrs Blake as we knew her, was a history teacher at my school, the Carlisle and County High School for Girls. I wonder how many copies are around these days. I cannot remember ever reading it, but will do now!!!

Who would have thought that clearing out the loft would provide so much material to blip!!!!
