I went to the Valley Festival yesterday afternoon & evening.  It’s in a lovely venue, just south of Bristol, by Chew Valley lake. I went with a friend whose nephews were the headline act, so not only was it free, but we had special wristbands allowing us into the ‘artists village’ (I think that should be artistes).
After spending some time chatting with my friends sister - the musicians’ mum - in the ‘village’ which offered decent toilets and free chilled water - we went to see a samba band on a small stage at the edge of the site. The is my main, a child dancing to the drummers, showing the dry dust which was everywhere, and the lovely, though lacking in water Chew Valley Lake. I liked the mirror installation too.
Then I watched a DJ and MC - the Tropical Tea Party - who I’d seen with my son in Bristol a few weeks ago, lovely reggae and highlife music. As the sun started to set, the moon to rise, and the temperature to go down,  we watched the headliners, called Clean Bandit. Their best known song was used for Marks and Spencer’s food adverts, and that was the only one I knew. They play enjoyable pop, not usually my sort of thing, but it was great. The two brothers who are the key members are very un-narcissistic, if that’s a word. They remain at the back, and at the front of the stage are 4 women, two singers (one of those whom, Yasmin Green was outstanding), a woman cellist and a woman violinist. Also two male dancers who I thought were brilliant. Pretty good sexual politics I thought. Masses of teenagers in the audience, good for them to see this.
