Diary of an Edinburgher

Crossed wires?

Jings it was cold today! There was a biting breeze direct from the North Pole.

I did some half-hearted bike exercises. JR did her usual enthusiastic gym session.

A bit of confusion re the defunct coffee machine. I found the receipt and the date it was bought, which confirmed that it was still under three years. I rang and got one chap, but we were ‘cut off’… I thought it was the old trick… I immediately rang back, and while I was on the phone to Chap no 2, Chap no 1 rang and left a voicemail.  But Chap no 2 was happily telling me that as it couldn’t be fixed (they don’t have the parts any more) then they’d send me a brand new top-of-the-range machine. Really? Truly? What colour? All good!

Then I listened to the voice mail Chap no 1 had left, saying it wasn’t under warranty and there was nothing they could do…

Talk about wires being crossed. Sooo… we await with bated breath to see if a brand new top-of-the-range coffee machine arrives…

After all that excitement, we all went out for a walk, which included a coffee of course. And scones. We then had a chilly walk round the Meadows and Archie insisted on climbing on the fallen tree.

Later, when JR went off to the supermarket I happened to alight on an afternoon film with Elizabeth Taylor and Peter Finch (made in 1954, though I didn’t see it that year!) called ‘Elephant Walk’. I knew right away that it was one I saw many moons ago when I was a wee impressionable kid, and it has remained a recurring nightmare since then, as I was terrified of the rampaging elephants knocking the house down at the end. Actually, there were pretty good special effects for 1954. But I wasn’t scared at all this time.

Our FM continues with her crackpot ideas - this time that England would continue to pay Scottish pensions after independence…

SIX NATIONS STARTS TOMORROW!

Tonight I made Moroccan-style chickpea, carrot and tomato tray bake with couscous. I think the recipe needs a few tweaks. I shall be offering my opinions to the company.
