It’s Getting Better

It might not look much, but this photo represents a fairly significant move forward on the redecoration front. Not only is the pelmet above the cupboard screwed back on, but the cupboard is full of coats and motorcycle gear once again. Why is this a big step forward? Because all that stuff has been living in the boot of my car for the last four weeks! Not only was it almost impossible to find whatever coat you required, but it was not easy to go anywhere or do anything that might require things to be put in the boot - quite tricky trying to cram a full bass rig and a couple of guitars into the back of a 2 door coupe! So I’m looking forward to having full use of my car again as well as being able to easily access any outdoor clothing that will inevitably be required as winter draws near.
And the kitchen is now almost complete - just one more pelmet to put up and the blinds to hang. Unfortunately, that latter task has been slightly complicated by me breaking one of the headers whilst trying to clean it and replace the chain. Thankfully Blinds by Design in Kendal have said they can repair it within a couple of days. They might even have the new vanes ready by then but, if not, I’ll put the old ones up so at least we’ll have a bit of privacy, especially after the clocks go back on Sunday when it will get dark a lot earlier.
It’s not all good news today though. The carpet fitters cannot fit us in until January now. This is a major setback because it means we either have to delay all our new furniture until then, or they will have to fit the carpets around it. Neither is a satisfactory state of affairs, never mind the fact that we won’t be able to get any books or CDs down from the loft, as their shelves can’t be secured to the walls until the carpet is down. I might try asking if they could just squeeze in the small back room before Xmas - it will certainly be a hell of a lot quicker for them to do it whilst it is empty and it would mean we could get a big chunk of furniture fitted. I only spoke to an assistant today so maybe a phone call to the head man on Monday will bump us up the queue a bit. Can’t hurt to ask…
