My family and other animals

A free day today and almost all of us went to the Jersey Zoo. Generally I would not chose to visit a zoo, the idea of a zoo as entertainment is repellent. I discerned the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust would be different and so it was. The animals live as far as possible in their natural habitat, with some like the golden headed lion tamarins roaming free, and native species – rabbits and red squirrels sharing the space. There are no savannah species.
It wasn’t always easy to spot what you were looking for and i had to be patient before the two Asian short clawed otters made an appearance. A totally engaging day.
I spent what was left of the afternoon in St Helier exploring the waterfront and the tidal lido. Saved the swimming with F for just before dinner back at Greenhills.
Monkfish with tempura prawns, tomato, samphire and spaghetti veg for dinner. Yum.
