Machair

The machair at Hushinish beach is exceptional, plus you get to walk through it on this sunken sandy track so the flowers are at head height and smell sweet and strong, particularly noticeable was the honeyish smell of  Lady’s Bedstraw.  We drove out there late morning and V had planned a walk over to a second beach, Taig Mhelien (spellcheck later) which is unreachable by road.   Turned out that the walk was a well marked climb along a steep hillside with occasional vertiginous drops.  When reached the small white sanded beach turned out to be another stunningly beautiful wide strand facing the island of Scarp so in a sheltered Sound.

We finally got back for our picnic lunch at tea time and ate it on the beach washing down smoked salmon from Uist with tea and a nip of my home made beech gin.

The wind has dropped and we even saw some sun towards the end of the day.  There were even people paddle boarding on Horgbost beach.
