A Small World!
I’ve been busy sorting the garden to make sure it’s easy for Bob next door to water everything. Planted a few seeds which will hopefully germinate and grow while we’re away - spinach, more carrots, pot marigolds, french marigolds and basil.
Gina - the Portuguese lady from next door but one - brought her pepper plant to put in our greenhouse and I gave her 2 tomato plants and a cucumber seedling. So she will be checking on my plants in the greenhouse too.
Apart from all that, it’s been a funny old day in a ‘small world’ kind of way.
This afternoon we had to collect prescriptions and I had to post the ‘too small’ wellies back to the company :-(. We combined that with taking Bella May for a trot.
As we came out of our front door we saw some people across the road buying a Border Collie puppy from our new neighbours (they have 8 puppies) so we simply had to go and see the pup. It also gave us a chance to introduce ourselves to the girl who has just moved in with her Mum/MiL + brother/boyfriend/husband??? (We don’t know what relation they are to each other yet - I will find out as I am the nosy neighbour!)
Anyway, we also got talking to the guy who was buying the puppy, a really nice young man. He said how he loved the area and I asked where he had driven from and he said Eastbourne. I told him my brother lives down there and that my nephew has a cafe called Nelson’s. He said he has been in there a few times for a coffee!
Then we bumped into some other neighbours that we don’t actually know, even though they only live a few doors up. Bear with me!
Last night while I was upstairs with the window open I heard wonderful strains of opera singing. I hung out of the window and saw a man standing outside his house singing is heart out - in Italian! The people we bumped into were that songster, his wife and another lady. I stopped when I saw them and told the man how much I had enjoyed his opera songs. He was very modest and a bit shy. His wife said she had told him to shut up in case he annoyed the neighbours! We introduced ourselves and so did they - Gustavo, Sue and their friend Claudia.
I asked where he was from and he said Uruguay. I recognised Sue’s accent - Liverpool - and she said she was from Waterloo, I told her I was from Maghull! Small World!
Then I asked Claudia where she was from as I heard an accent - Romania she said. Aaaah! Meet our Bella, she’s from Romania too ;-D
What a multi cultural place we live in! Portugal, Romania and Uruguay and Barry across the road is a Kiwi!
Then...the man came to carry out our Covid tests for the research programme we’re taking part in.
He asked me where I was from and when I said born in Lancaster and brought up in Liverpool he said he thought I had a bit of a Scottish accent. When I told him we lived in Dumfries area for 35 years he said he and his wife used to live in Corsock in Lothlorian! Not far from where we lived and a place we know well. He knew lots of folk that we know.
As I said - a funny old day!
I’m now watching The Great British Sewing Bee on catch up, then it’s the final part of Anne Boleyn.
The photo is my IKEA bag all packed up for the boat trip.
With that I’ll say Goodnight! :-)X
