Windermere Ferry and Hawkshead

Two weeks today is Dan's driving test, which will take place in Kendal. Thus we've resolved to do some practice driving around the town and this morning was our second session. Lord, it's boring.

We lasted twenty minutes or so and then headed out on the Windermere Road to cross the roundabout and follow the road that goes out to Crook. When we got to Storrs I suggested we take the ferry across to Hawkshead.

It's always a roll of the dice taking the ferry but today there was no queue. Well, a very small one: we were second. I took the main photo while we were waiting for the ferry to return from the other side of the lake (which was just as well; it transpired that, at the moment, you have to stay in your car on the way across).

Once we reached the other side, we parked up in Hawkshead and went for a stroll around the village, although we were immediately seduced by the fish and chip shop for lunch. But, having sat outside and eaten, we had an enjoyable walk about.

My Extras are the cottage where I spent an Easter with my family in, I'm guessing, 1983, and then evidence of some terrible street name vandalism by the Hawkshead Marketing Department.
