horns of wilmington's cow

Otterly Maxwellian

I've never read Ring of Brightwater, and to be honest I'm not sure I agree with Gavin Maxwell's harnessed otters; but we've visited his home in the north west a couple of times, so with an interesting looking walk passing a memorial to him, before moving into Monreith Estate, it only seemed right. And I'm a sucker for an otter, even if it's a cast one. Mind you, I'm reading a wonderful account of otters at the moment, which does bring into stark relief their rather unsentimental approach to life. Mel has asked that I stop telling her details....

The day started rather fantastically with a walk around a couple of the fields of the farm we're staying on with some alpacas, and tagged on a lovely wee red squirrel, before a brown hare visited us in the early evening.

This is what holidays are for :)
