Fire

The first time I looked around the house - spring 2000, I guess - I didn't notice the view, only that it had a lovely big kitchen, enough bedrooms for all of us, and an open fire.

And I love it when it gets to October/November time and it's cold enough to start lighting the fire when I get home. It transforms the room; any chill seems to disappear instantly and there's nothing like a post-work nap on the sofa just as the fire is taking.

The only downside is that apart from going to the kitchen to cook, I can barely bring myself to leave the room and I spend all evening on the sofa. But I'm not complaining :-)
