Life In Wales

Chatellerie de Schoebeque

My lovely husband has brought me away for a romantic weekend in Cassel, a hill top town in the Northern France. As I've mentioned in previous blips, we used to have a house in a small village less than 10 kms from here, so used to visit Cassel a lot. We always wanted to stay at this lovely hotel, but of course never did as we had our own house down the road.

We sold the house a couple of years ago, but still come back frequently and this weekend we're finally staying in the hotel, and going for dinner to our favourite restaurant.

Before coming to the hotel we went for lunch at Le Spey River, our local bar and saw our friends Dominique & Muriel who own it, and then went to see Francois Felix in his little shop around the corner. We're always made to feel so welcome even though months can pass between visits.

The hotel is wonderful and our room is called 'La Pompadour', and furnished in Louis XV style furniture with red furnishings and red walls - very romantic! I was going to blip the room, but decided on the outside of the hotel instead :-)

Anyway, I'd better get ready for dinner - I'll catch up with you later!

Legend has it, that in the Nursery Rhyme 'The Grand Old Duke of York', Cassel was the hill that the Grand Old Duke of York marched his men up in the Flanders Campaign with the Battle of Tourcoing in 1794.
