Life In Wales

A Room with a View

We woke up this morning to a beautiful blue and pink sky, and we could even see the moon, so I jumped out of bed and got my camera before it changed. Our room was at the back of the hotel so we had a fabulous view over the countryside.

We spent the morning relaxing and had breakfast in our room, and before we left, the sun had more or less gone and it became very misty. It was amazing to see mist between the trees, and I took this shot across the fields using my zoom.

After leaving Cassel, we stopped off near Ypres as Alan had found information about a preserved World War 1 trench dug out by the Yorkshire Regiment. You can actually go in it, and it was amazing to see how confined they were, and to think that they lived and fought here for about two years. The trench was discovered in 1992 and the remains of 155 soldiers were found. Information can be found on the Great War website.

We then went to Bruges as I wanted to visit the Snow and Ice Sculpture festival. Each year experts from all over the world create a different theme in ice, and this year it was based on Harry Potter, The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. It's extremely cold inside at -6 degrees, and there's even an ice bar!

And to top off the day, we found an Indian Restaurant in the centre of Bruges so went for a curry - this really was quite a treat as we don't have any Indian restaurants locally, and the food was lovely.

We've had a wonderful weekend away and are now back home, relaxing with a glass of wine for me, and a beer for Alan :-)
