Random Harvest

My day started earlier planned, as I got up to go to the bathroom and out of habit looked out of the window and saw the most amazing sunrise. So that was it, as tired as I was, I was up in search of my camera. I took a few shots out of the bedroom window and then decided I'd quickly get dressed and go to the top of the hill in the hope of getting some better shots. As it turned out the ones I took out of the bedroom window were the best.

When I got home, Alan was up and getting dressed too, so we had a quick breakfast and went out with Louis while the weather was good. We walked along the Undercliff coastal path to the Marina, but this took some time as the walkway was covered in pebbles, rocks and lots of other debris that had been washed up from the sea. It's amazing what we found, and the damage that had occurred during the storm, including huge pieces of chalk that had fallen from the cliffs! I've put a collection of shots into my Flickr account.

Once we got to the Marina we remembered that there is a car boot sale every Sunday on the top level of the multi car park, so we went to have a look and I ended up buying a very cheap bangle ;-) We then set off on the 3 mile walk home, and just as we got to the end of the Marina we saw the life boat coming into the lock. They were towing a shipwreck that had been spotted out at sea so we stopped to watch as it's not often you see the RNLI at work. It was interesting watching the way the lock worked, and it provided a great blip opportunity.

Once they'd deposited the ship wreck they had to work their way back out of the lock and were waiting for the swing bridge to open which I was stood on. So while they were waiting I was able to talk to them and asked if I could take a photo of them 'head on'. They were very obliging and actually all posed for me, so today this had to be my blip. They do an excellent job and I think they deserve the recognition. We then carried on our way, stopping at the beach cafe in Ovingdean for a hot chocolate for me and a coffee for Alan, and this time we succumbed to the smell of bacon and had a bacon roll for our lunch.

We were out for 4 hours in total and the weather started to change on our way home. The tide had come in and the winds were starting to build up, so the waves were crashing over the wall. We decided to go up the steps to the main road and walked back through Rottingdean, getting home just before the rain started. Apparently we're in for another storm tonight!

I chose the title 'Random Harvest' for two reasons - firstly all the 'crap' washed up out of the sea, and secondly the RNLI boat was called 'Random Harvest', so I thought it was quite appropriate. You can see more photos of the life boat here.

In other news, once we got home this afternoon I've been updating my CV. When we moved back to England, I said that I didn't want to look for a job for the first 6 months as I wanted to create a life for us. I feel that I've done that, and now it's time to start looking for work. I only want to work part time, and have found two jobs at Brighton University which look interesting, and the closing date for applications is on Tuesday, so wish me luck!
