Transport of Delight
The day began with a run on Portobello beach with a three masted barque at anchor in Musselburgh. STS Tenacious is one of the Jubilee Sailing Trusts ships designed to accommodate a crew of all abilities. (There is a permanent crew of 11 with a voyage crew of up to 40 : 50% of whom may be sensory impaired or physically disabled.)
An Edinburgh visitor called after breakfast to collect some belongings we had been storing for our oldest London son to transport them south tomorrow in his car.
In the midday sun we headed to the Borders railway beside Borthwick Castle. Here we caught the nostalgic sight of a steam train storming up the gradient on the old Waverley route. We were not alone as others including one with a drone had staked out this vantage point.*
We came home through Dalkeith Country Park which was busy before the heavy thunder showers rolled in in the late afternoon.
*The Scottish Railway Preservation Society are running this steam train every Sunday during August. The passengers can board at Linlithgow and stations in Fife for the Forth Bridge crossings. Passengers can also join the train at Waverley. There is time at Tweedbank to visit Abbotsford.
