Today's the day …………………… to be off grid

Lovely to visit Brian and Jacqui, long-standing friends from student days, who moved to Dumfries & Galloway a couple of years ago.

When I say 'moved' - they really did things properly.  They bought a piece of land and built a house on it.  But because they are quite a way from the usual services, they generate their own power (solar and wind) and their water comes from a well or is collected when it rains.  They have the most amazingly productive garden with poly-tunnels and greenhouses full of fruit and veg.  This is their orchard - full of apple/plum/cherry/pear trees.

They have worked hard to get it all the way they want it - and there are plenty more plans in the pipeline …………………...
