Today's the day ……………………. for an afternoon concert

We were privileged to go to a concert in Lockerbie this afternoon featuring (from left to right) Claire Mann, Aaron Jones, Jamie McClennan, Emily Smith, Robyn Stapleton and Wendy Stewart - with reader Tom Pow and musicians from Scottish Ensemble.

Each one of them could have filled a concert programme all by themselves - but to have them all performing together was very much a feast of music.  The concert, entitled Home and Horizon  brought the 40th anniversary year of Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival to a close.  Its premise was to celebrate this beautiful corner of Scotland - and to bring into focus the bittersweet push and pull between land and city, the wistful longing of travellers, separation and reunion, the deep need for hearth and home - but the pull of the horizon.

It was all put together by Alison Burns to make a seamless flow of beautiful quality music.  Here's a little taste of one of the songs sung by Emily Smith -  Come Home Pretty Bird ……………………...
