Serenaded for Christmas

We were just finishing off our Christmas dinner BBQ when Kiwilizzie and Dumbledorian pricked up their ears. From off in the distance was coming the sound of bagpipes. Kiwilizzie went off to track down the source and came back to tell us that someone was playing the pipes over in the showgrounds shearing sheds. Keep in mind that we live in New Zealand not in Scotland.

We grabbed cameras and headed off to see what it was about.

The clan McKay (from Reefton and Blenheim) had met up in Murchison to celebrate Christmas together. We had a lovely chat to the two brothers from Reefton whilst the brother from Blenheim continued to serenade us. A wonderful sound to hear on Christmas day - especially in 'real life' rather than on a CD.

To make it even more enjoyable Kiwilizzie chatted with them about places she associates with in Britain that they have been. And I chatted to them about my family as the brothers used to work with my uncle (now deceased) and knew many others of my mother's family.

To use a cliche - small world we live in.

Merry Christmas all.
