A slice of Lesley's life

By Lesley

Exceedingly good afternoon

Despite being a bit shabby* our host had clearly had a very successful day of baking and when we arrived for afternoon tea the table was beautifully filled with scones and chocolate cake and soon she was slicing her first ever homemade Battenberg. The table was completed with cucumber sandwiches, mini cupcakes and sweet and salty popcorn. Pots of tea served in a fine array of cups and glasses of fizz and I was a little spoilt for choice with where to point the camera. In honour of the successful first attempt at a new cake the Battenberg slicing wins out.

For me and J, most of the rest of the day involved getting to and from and watching/playing his team's quarter final cup game. I was expecting this to be a footballing blip as it was such a lovely sunny autumnal day but frankly it wasn't the prettiest game and is probably best glossed over. For example, I certainly shouldn't record the moment when Jackson (as goalkeeper) tried to clear the ball, only to boot it (really rather hard) into the head of the opposition player about 2m away knocking him down like a bowling pin. The player's recovery was probably helped by the realisation the ball had rebounded into the goal...oh well, apparently you can't win them all. I distracted myself with taking photos which was fun but a shame that no-one will want to see them. They lost 4-3 which I think is a fair reflection of how hard they worked but the right, in a sort of moral way, result.

Now for Homeland to end another very lovely weekend.
