Nostalgic trip

It was a refreshing change to be back at Shamrock Quay on the River Itchen at Southampton today — my last visit would have been a few years back and while it still has a unique character, it is my impression much has changed since I was last here.

The marina takes its name from the famous J-Class yacht Shamrock V which was constructed here back in the 1930s, at the time a contender for the America’s Cup.

But now it is home to a 255-berth marina along with boatyard boatyard facilities, boat storage and a host of marine specialist companies from sail making to engineering, and chandlery.

My visits over the years rook in one of my favourite restaurants, and a bar, and an assortment of other businesses.
